so apart from the fact it can never do 1.75 Gbps to 1 device anyway you cant use the 450M wireless N while you use usb 3 and visa verse see description the unit is faulty if you cant use both its wifi ( N 2.4 gig ) and its usb 3 at the same time e0b80bc1840d2&q=define faulty fault·y Adjective Working badly or unreliably because of imperfections. If a product is faulty, then either a feature doesn't work or it doesn't do what is says it will do. I am a fussy customer and I did a lot of research before I purchased this product. Hooroo :-) Pete Y, have a read here and you will have a better understanding of what D-Link are getting at.....(of reasoning and other mental processes) Mistaken or misleading because of flaws. you have performance issues with 2.4GHz wireless when using certain USB3 devices in the USB3 port then it may be appropriate to limit the USB3 port to USB2 functionality. Or perhaps they are more expensive with better shielding? I believe the issue is with attached devices, and not necessarily an issue with the D-Link shielding. I have the DIR-865L and find it to be a quality product as far as performance and robustness is concerned.Regards The DSL-2890AL is a new unit and thus there is very little feedback on it. I have a desktop PC 20 metres away connected to 1 ethernet port and I have a TP-Link 8 port switch on a 2nd ethernet port.It is extremely unlikely this unit would be better than ASUS' offerings. Running off the switch are 4 devices – my HTPC (intel NUC), my Panasonic Led and 2 dual network tuners (hdhomeunr/kaiser baas).
Couple of important things to note: To me this is unacceptable for a 0 Broadcom unit when D-Link's cheaper/older units have it fully supported. This modem is supposed to have ALL the boxes ticked except VOIP/3G features (which are hidden in the firmware anyway) If the SPI and IPTV is fixed, I would definitely classify this as the best AC DSL Gateway on the market, and I have used and modded enough gateways to know otherwise. It's definetly not a deal breaker considering the speed of the wireless, but it's there if you want/need it. Hooroo :-) but thats just it if it does not do as advertised its nether perfect or worth the money or time and i would suggest anyone who gets one of this and believes they have been mislead by the non functionality return it rather than put up with what i obviously sub standard quality but thats just it if it does not do as advertised its nether perfect or worth the money or time and i would suggest anyone who gets one of this and believes they have been mislead by the non functionality return it rather than put up with what i obviously sub standard quality But it does do what is advertised and I am an extremely happy customer. And to change to usb 3.0, it's as easy as ticking a check box and waiting 1 min for the modem to be in usb 3.0 mode. For the record I have not noticed a drop in 2.4ghz wifi performance when in usb 3.0 mode. And worse case scenario there is still 5ghz wifi at full speed. I agree people should be aware of it, but it doesn't need fixing. If you feel mislead, then fair enough don't buy it – One person being misled doesn't mean that it is sub standard quality.Basically i leave my usb 3.0 external drive plugged into it and use it with usb 2.0 speeds (so that i get full speed wireless 2.4ghz), but if/when i need to copy some of my photography/movies to it, i'll quickly change it to usb 3.0.. I have only heard and experienced good things regarding the product so far.The DSL-2890AL uses the latest Wireless AC technology, which can provide transfer rates of up to 1.75 Gbps* (1300AC 450N). Product is definately imperfect, but what product is perfect? It depends on what someone expects from such a device.Choosing root only gave me dlna streaming from 1 hard drive, even though i can see both on the network and copy to and from them. Also, when you choose to use a usb 3.0 hdrive, a warning from D-link appears stating that your 2.4G wireless may be affected if you choose USB 3.0. I am curious as to whether you can help me further with my discussion here:- /forum-replies.cfm?
